Public Pedestrian Access Easement & Kendrick Estates

PROTECT OUR PUBLIC PARK FOR GENERATIONS TO COME

We are a community-based organization focused on protecting Hollow Rock Nature Park from a proposed adjacent housing development.  At this time Kendrick Estate Subdivision is requesting an annexation and zoning change from the City of Durham - final meeting Monday Feb 17, 2020 at 7pm, Durham City Hall.  This proposed development will be located adjacent to eastern boundary and uphill, near Headwater Loop Trail, and will result in environmental damage to Hollow Rock Nature Park and New Hope Creek.  This tract of land is the only potential site for homes to be built adjacent to park; all other land is protected.   Developer proposes to add 38 homesites with only 30' buffer from park boundary resulting in significantly altered topography.  This tract of land is sold with a public access easement into Hollow Rock Nature Park.

Friends of HRNP request citizen input to local government (focus Durham City Council) and Baker Residential of the Carolina's LLC to request mitigation of development's damage to the park, protect wildlife, support pollinators and demand public access point be safe, sustainable and accessible to the public (including Forest View Elementary School Children) for generations to come.  Proposed changes to the land are extreme (Redirects water flow from uphill to downhill).  The result: a public access point that is elevated 16' above the park floor, a public access point adjacent wetlands and public access point descending between 53 degrees to 32 degrees.  (As a reference, Trail public access point guidelines recommend a 12 degrees connecting trial for maximum of 10').

A Public Access Point is Our Right and Must be Honored ...

Protect HRNP Wildlife, Support Pollinators, Demand Public Access

New Hope Nature Park's public trial access point through Kendrick Estates must be safe, sustainable and accessible to the public (including Forest View Elementary School Children and Neighboring Communities) for generations to come.
